Salt Cave FAQ

What is Dry Salt Therapy – Halotherapy?

Salt therapy, aka Halotherapy, is an alternative treatment for a wide variety of ailments and conditions: asthma, allergies, anxiety, inflammation, skin issues, and even the common cold. The salt is naturally anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial. The treatment offers a unique, natural therapy that allows you to get a sense of peace and serenity, while simply breathing. The salt air is made up of negatively-charged ionized salt particles, 84 trace elements and minerals  which helps to to treat and prevent illness and reduce inflammation in the nasal passages. The salt also works to heal the body as soon as its negative ions enter the nasal passageway, which then travel through the respiratory tract and into the bloodstream to be dispersed throughout the body

What do I wear to the Salt Cave?

We recommend comfortable clothing. Your clothes won’t get messed up from the salt, neither will your hair or make-up and clients often come for a session and then go out on the town straight afterwards. We recommend bringing a sweater or sweatshirt as it does get cold and wearing socks. You need to remove your shoes to walk on our salt cave floor.

What is the temperature?

The Cave is on the slightly colder side and is kept at 70 degrees. We do provide cozy blankets and recommend that you bring socks and a sweatshirt.

Are there any side effects?

Dry salt therapy is 100% natural and drug free, there are no negative side effects. After sessions, you may experience a slight dry throat or cough, minor tightness in the chest or runny nose, but this is simply the salt eliminating  mucus and toxins from the lungs and airways.

How often can I frequent the salt cave?

  • Depending on age and stage of your condition, 20-30 sessions are recommended for long term results.
  • The sessions should be frequent; about two or three a week is suggested, we have inexpensive  2 month memberships  available.
  • For irreversible conditions, two to three-month follow-up sessions are recommended to maintain the clear lungs.

In most patients, after a course of Dry Salt Therapy, airways become normal and symptoms disappear. The treatment’s efficacy is estimated at 75-98%. Most clients do 1-2 Salt Therapy courses a year. In between they might come back for some top-up sessions, if they start to feel poorly, e.g. they are coming down with a cold.

Who can benefit from dry salt therapy?

Dry Salt therapy is good for EVERYONE, please call to see age restrictions and family sessions.

Is salt therapy safe for pregnant women?

Always confirm with your Doctor, depending on your  own pregnancy journey.

Dry Salt therapy is a great choice for women who do not want to rely heavily on over-the-counter or prescribed medication for sinusitis, asthma, allergies, and other respiratory illnesses. Pregnant women who have come to BREATHE have experienced relief for their congestion and chronic respiratory problems. In addition, the ionized salt particles help boost their immune system.

Should I stop using my medication during salt therapy?

No. Dry Salt Therapy should be used as a complementary treatment. People who come to BREATHE often find that they can reduce their dependence on certain medications and that their episodes are not as frequent or severe. However, you should always follow your doctor’s advice and your prescribed medication regimen.

Can I bring a child with me?

There is no age limit for Salt Therapy. Children under 10 are welcome in our Private Salt Room where they can play quietly. We recommend bringing clean, dry beach toys for them to play with in the salt. These are  separate sessions as young children are not allowed in the Community Salt Cave. Children must always be accompanied by an adult and reservations are required!

Can I read a book in the cave?

This is a special time for internal reflection and healing. The lights are dimmed and you are encouraged to let your body rest and repair in a passive way and to leave your phone outside of the Cave.

Can I bring in food or water during my session?

No food or drinks are allowed in the Caves.

What is the cancellation policy?

A 24 hour cancellation notice is required for a refund.

Salt Therapy Sessions are 45-minutes inside the Cave, clients relax in zero-gravity chairs inside a dimly lit environment. Listening to the beautiful waterfall cascading and Meditation music plays to quiet your mind, while the twinkling lights above facilitate relaxation.

What happens if I’m late for my session?

Since our sessions begin promptly at the top of each hour, we ask you arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled session time so as not to disturb other clients once the session has begun. We are not able to allow anyone to enter the Cave after that.  If you are late and arrive after the session has started, we would be happy to reschedule your session should the schedule allow.

Can I book a Cave for a private or group event?
